It was lovely to see a little sunshine this week! Reception made the most of the sunnier days and have spent a lot of time in the outside learning environment. They have particularly enjoyed the new recipe cards in the mud kitchen, reading the instructions, applying their phonics and making some delicious mud soup!

We have also started our new class reader, Happy Hatchday by Rob Biddulph. The children have explored some of the new vocabulary that we found in the story and added it to our ‘Never heard the Word’ board. They were interested to find out that dinosaurs came from eggs and that they had nests so we decided to make our own nest. They have loved spending time in there, sharing stories.

The children were also very pleased to have had their first experience of a pantomime, Oliver Twist. They enjoyed the singing, dancing and silly characters.

This week Reception have enjoyed their topic learning all about animals. Today Mrs McGinn brought in some special visitors for the class...Midnight and MissJoke the Guinea Pigs! They arrived in their travel cage, hidden under a blanket. The children were not sure what could be inside. Was it a zebra? Was it a giraffe? Was it Mrs Rimmer? They were very excited to meet them! We talked about how we need to use quiet voices so they don’t get scared, the children were very respectful.  We have drawn pictures of them, fed them, cuddled them and watched their twitchy whiskers!

Reception have been very busy with their learning this week too. Extending their phonics knowledge and learning some new digraphs and trigraphs. We have been focusing on recalling our tricky words this week, playing games at home and school. Thank you parents for your support!

We’ve also enjoyed exploring the artist James Rizzi. We love his use of bold, contrasting colours and can’t wait to make some art of our very own!

Reception have had a great week dressing up and singing this week.

They have been super stars singing in assembly with their new favourite hymn, Our God is a Great Big God.

Reception have been working hard this week learning new sounds and blending in phonics. Sorting, mixing and matching in maths and continuing to explore the story of Goldilocks and the three bears.

However the most exciting thing to happen this week was celebrating our first birthday! The children were very keen to celebrate their friend turning five so we sang Happy Birthday, made birthday cards and played party games in the afternoon.

Great fun was had by all and it is lovely to see their new friendships continue to blossom.

This week in reception we have building on our skills. We have really been building our independence skills this week while Mrs McGinn has been away. We are looking forward to seeing her again next week.

Well done Reception.
